Yes, it’s that time again. Time for to celebrate a new Ubuntu release with the semiannual Golden Ponies!
First of all, I’d like to thank all the Ubuntu community developers and contributors, without whom Ubuntu simply wouldn’t be anything like what it is today. Thanks also really go out to Mark and the Canonical team. Thanks for supporting us and letting the community grow, even if it’s sometimes painful to watch 🙂 .
Disclaimer: These awards are just a fun way for me to celebrate a new release. Obviously I can’t keep track of contributions of everyone in Ubuntu, so if you think you or someone you know should have gotten a Golden Pony and didn’t, I’m sorry. On the bright side, there’s always Gutsy Gibbon.

Best Producer: Again goes to Mark Shuttleworth (duh), this time for his work on Feisty Fawn: The “Let’s hope this doesn’t end up like Bambi’s mom” Release, Premonition (the crystal ball says 3D-desktop … now), and of course The Astronaut FLOSS Farmer
Best Director: Matt Zimmerman for work directing TMND (Teenage Mutant Ninja Devs). An interesting side note, Matt also does the voice of Master Splinter in this film.
Best Release Management: Tollef Fog Heen for Are We Done Yet? and .ISOs of Glory
Best Actor: Daniel Holbach for his role as the smiling Drum’n’Bass DJ biker in Wild Hugs
Best Actress: Melissa Draper in LoCo-motion and Disturbia: the Bottle Dance Revealed
Best Supporting Cast: The Launchpad dev team for Everything’s Gone Green and In the Land of Zope
Best Distro for Kids: Oliver Grawert and Scott Balneaves for Meet the LTSPers: Grown men acting like children
MOTU Deity Award: bddebian (aka Barry deFreese) for Barry Almighty
Most Uploads by a Core-dev: Matthias Klose in Grindhouse, a double feature of buildd horror with Planet OpenOffice.org and Python Proof
Most Uploads by a MOTU: Micheal Bienia in 300+
Best Documentary: Jono Bacon’s wonderful film Understanding Cats
